RE: Question about replacing tires.

You just can't place a jack anywhere under the axle, doing so could bend the axle. I may not be doing it correctly, but I place a bottle jack under the spring U bolt and use that to jack it up. It could possibly slip off though as any point of contact could. I need to make an adapter to cradle between the U bolt and bottle jack. BTW my springs are on top of the axle.

RE: How many tow with GM 6L gasser?

I bought new a 03 Chevy 2500HD with the 6.0 and 4.10 gears. I tow 10,300. The truck now has a little over 80k on it. Probably 20k of towing. I use to wish I had gotten a diesel, but not anymore. It does okay in Tennesse, Florida, South Carolina and Georgia. If I only towed, then I suppose the diesel route is the way I would have went. I get 8.0 to 8.9 towing depending on how much of a hurry I'm in. I usually pull between 65 and 70. Keeping it below 65, it will get better than 8.5 towing and it drives like a dream.

RE: Did I wreck my axles??

My springs are above the axle. I know it may be a dangerious, but I use the spring U bolt to jack the axle up. I've thought about making an adapter for the bottle jack that will cradle the U bolt.

RE: Gas/Electric water heater

Usually the electric feeds from the distribution breaker panel to the water heater. Check the distribution breaker panel for one marked water heater. Should be a 15 amp.

The simple solution would be trade for a TT.

RE: With My Whole Heart, Thank You for My Freedom!!!

Great Post Britt. I fully agree. Thank you so much all veterans. I've heard it said, if you forget history it will repeat itself. I just hope our nation does not have to.

RE: For the GM'ers about air filter indicator...

I changed my 03 Chevy at 36k and again about 76k. It looked like it could have went longer, but was fairly dirty. I played with the red indicator with my mouth to see if it would work. It will work doing that, but I've never seen the red from natural use.

RE: hot water

Ours is a 6 gallon. DW and I very seldom have a problem running out of hot water. If we wash dishes before we are almost sure to run out. Sometimes when DW takes a little more time than normal washing her hair the 6 gallon heater reminds her to hurry up. When taking showers we usually run the water heater on both electric and gas. Recovery time is more than half the time of electric only.

RE: Problems with Montana RV

Dale
Glad to see you post again. I'm the skeptic. I hope you have all the problems fixed by now. What did you do to fix the wiring that pulled loose for the slide? I have a similar problem with wiring support on one of my slides. I'm not a bad person and sure not a debunker, just a skeptic. Welcome to the board.

RE: load range on tires

I had five Chinese tire failures before I went with LT225/75R/16E rated B F Goodrich Commercial TA's. If I did not go to a 16 I would try to fit 15 inch Maxxis in load range E. Even if I had to do some axle modifications to do so. They seam to be the best 15 inch tire maker.

RE: Uneven tire wear

There are tractor trailer shops that are set up to align the axles on even our smaller trailers than theirs. Take it to one of them for alignment. There are some threads on here about the subject. Someone good with computers can post a shortcut.

RE: Bunk House....kids really use it?

Our kids are grown and we have grandkids. Listening to our grandkids and son in law we bought a bunkhouse. Well the grandkids ended up sleeping on the dinette table that made a bed. Our daughter and SIL would sleep on the sofa that made a bed. Being the younger generation they like to sleep later that we do. It made it a problem getting up in the morning and not being able to get to the kitchen to make coffee without stepping over the sofa bed corner. Four years later we traded for a rear living room. DW and I are much happier and even the grandkids and SIL like it better also. A lot more living area to watch TV etc. and still plenty of sleeping area. Also a suggestion, a sofa that folds out and makes a bed to me is a must for a rear living room. Wish we had bought the rear living room first, then we would not have traded.

RE: Bilstein Shocks

I put Bilsteins on my 03 Chevy at around 75k miles. What a difference! The original should have been replaced around 40k. The main difference is when towing. Bilstein believer here.

RE: Empty 1 lb Propane Canisters

I've never refilled a one pound bottle before. One time a propane company truck was in my neighborhood and I ask the guy to fill my 30 pound RV tank. He said they were not allowed to fill portable tanks from the truck anymore and that I would have to get it filled at their store. Safety reasons. So the way I see it, different ways of refilling can create different pressures. So a company is not going to say it's okay to refill their bottle not knowing by what means you will be refilling it. Would I refill a one pound bottle from another portable tank if I had an adapter?.....Yes.
